Founded in 1824 by barley farmer Alexander Reid, The Macallan stands as one of Scotland’s earliest legally licensed distilleries. Its name derives from the Gaelic "Maghellan"—"magh" (fertile ground) and "Ellan" (honoring Monk St. Fillan), reflecting the land’s deep connection to nature and tradition. For centuries, Speyside farmers distilled surplus barley during winter, a practice that evolved into The Macallan’s unwavering commitment to quality.

The 2018 Edition No. 4 celebrates the opening of the revolutionary Macallan Distillery, its green packaging paying homage to the distillery’s iconic turf-covered roof—a symbol of harmony between innovation and landscape.
