Meikle Tòir 5 Year Old The Chinquapin One is a peated Speyside single malt whisky produced at The GlenAllachie Distillery under the direction of Master Distiller Billy Walker.
Meikle Tòir, meaning “big pursuit”, represents GlenAllachie’s exploration of peated single malt whisky. The Chinquapin One is matured in carefully selected virgin Chinquapin oak barrels sourced from the Northern Ozark region of Missouri, USA.
These distinctive oak casks contribute rich notes of sweet spice, toasted nuts and caramelised oak, complementing the whisky’s smoky character.
The malted barley is peated to approximately 35 PPM using mainland peat from St. Fergus. This creates a softer, sweeter style of smoke compared with many heavily maritime peated whiskies.
A lengthy 160-hour fermentation helps develop additional fruitiness and complexity before maturation in virgin oak, producing a layered whisky combining smoke, spice, sweetness and toasted oak.
Bottled at 48% ABV, Meikle Tòir The Chinquapin One offers a distinctive interpretation of peated Speyside single malt.
Nose:
Smouldering oak embers, burnt liquorice and honey, followed by ginger, butterscotch and fresh orange peel.
Palate:
Rich cocoa and crème brûlée combine with toasted almonds, cinnamon and aniseed, accompanied by warming campfire smoke.
Finish:
Medium to long, with lingering sweet spice, toasted oak and gentle peat smoke.
